5 Lowest Totals of MI in IPL History
MI has been dismissed for less than 100 several times in the IPL. In the 2011 season, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), now Punjab Kings, bowled them out for 92 in Mohali. The Mumbai outfit’s joint-lowest IPL total came at home after being bowled out for 87 by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 season. Those who predicted MI would struggle in these matches would have made a fortune in in those seasons.
Here are the top five lowest scores of MI in the IPL:
87 all out vs KXIP (IPL 2011)
Chasing 164 against KXIP, MI was bundled out for just 87. Only four batters—Aiden Blizzard, Ambati Rayudu, Kieron Pollard, and Harbhajan Singh—registered two-digit scores as MI suffered one of its worst defeats in the IPL. Bhargav Bhatt picked up four wickets for KXIP in the match.
87 all out vs SRH (2018)
In a low-scoring affair, MI chased 119 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Wankhede. What was thought to be an easy run chase turned into a disaster. Apart from Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya, the remaining Mumbai batters were clueless against the SRH bowlers. The home side succumbed to 87, suffering an embarrassing defeat at home.
92 all out vs DD (IPL 2012)
In the 2012 season, MI hosted Delhi Daredevils (DD), now Delhi Capitals, at home. It was a gloomy evening for the Mumbai faithful as their team was bowled out for just 92. Harbhajan Singh top-scored with 33, while Rohit Sharma added 29. In reply, the Daredevils chased down the score with 31 balls to spare.
92 all out vs RR (IPL 2013)
MI suffered a big defeat when they met Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur in IPL 2013. Needing 180 to clinch a fourth consecutive win in the season, MI struggled early on. The then-Ricky Ponting-led side was reduced to 31-4 in eight overs. RR bowlers piled more pressure, and MI was out for just 92. Dinesh Karthik top-scored with 31 runs. It is the same season in which MI went on to lift the title.
MI vs SRH (2016)
SRH decimated MI when both teams met in Visakhapatnam in the 2016 season. Batting first, the Orange Army posted a challenging 177. MI ran into trouble early in the run chase, losing five wickets in the powerplay, scoring just 32 runs. A valuable 21 from Harbhajan Singh saw MI make 92 before being bowled out. Three weeks later, SRH lifted their maiden IPL title.
